H2scan Digest – Feb 2025

Welcome to the February 2025 Issue of the H2scan Digest

Welcome to the New Year!

We’re off to a fast start in 2025, bringing new insights, events and industry developments to help you stay ahead.

New Webinar: Watch On-Demand

January kicked off our H2scan webinar series with How to Use Single Gas Transformer Monitors to Reduce Manufacturing Downtime. We had an incredible turnout, with many attendees reaching out to discuss hydrogen monitoring for their specific applications. If you missed it, don’t worry! You can still watch the webinar to learn how real-time hydrogen monitoring helps reduce unplanned outages, improve asset reliability and optimize maintenance costs.

January Conferences

The 2025 conference season is underway! Jeff Donato, Sales Director of Safety Products, represented H2scan at IEEE and EESAT (Electrical Energy Storage Applications and Technologies), a leading forum for energy storage innovations. It was an excellent opportunity to discuss how hydrogen monitoring enhances battery safety and reliability.

New Articles

H2scan thought leaders are at it again with a variety of new articles in the hydrogen press! Check out the newest articles in the Resource Library on transformer monitoring, hydrogen economy and battery storage safety.

New White Paper

As energy systems evolve, so do the safety challenges. Without unified European standards, battery room safety regulations can feel like a maze of national, regional and local requirements. Check out our newest white paper, Navigating the Complex Landscape of Battery Room Safety in Europe for best practices, key IEC standards, compliance strategies and more.

Hydrogen Economy and Energy on the Move

Hydrogen could be the largest renewable energy source but has high production costs. Yet once improved, hydrogen could cut climate mitigation costs by 22% or more. Some markets that could use hydrogen as their main energy source include transportation and industrial manufacturing.

Distribution transformers are a critical part of energy delivery, “stepping down” the voltage so that it is safe to use for the next stop, the customer. While residential transformers may be on poles or in pad-mount enclosures, many of those transformers serve Commercial and Industrial (C&I) facilities. Regardless, the growth is anticipated in 2050 to be between 160% to 260% of 2021 levels. The growth drivers are a combination of the number of transformers that fail and the number of new customers being added to the grid.

Chances are you’ve used artificial intelligence today, possibly without even knowing it. All this new use in AI is driving up energy demand, predicted at 50% annually, stressing an already strained energy network. Longer-term solutions include emphasizing the need for coordinated efforts in regulation, technological innovation and collaboration to ensure sustainable AI deployment. In the short term, the ever-increasing number of hyperscale data centers depend on grid owners extracting more from their current assets.
