Energy News Update

NFPA 855 Officially Codifies Hazard Mitigation Analysis:

The 2026 edition of NFPA 855 expands approved early fire detection methods for lithium-ion battery storage and makes Hazard Mitigation Analysis the default requirement for most ESS installations. This means that facility managers must now formally document their detection strategies rather than relying on prescriptive minimums. Ask us how hydrogen monitoring systems fit within your mitigation planning.

Moss Landing BESS “Too Costly” to Fully Restore After Fire:

A portion of the Moss Landing battery energy storage facility will never return to service following last year’s fire, illustrating the long-term and costly consequences of inadequate prevention. The financial and operational impact of losing a major grid-scale asset reinforces the benefits of best practices: detecting explosive hydrogen gas and ventilating is far less expensive than the alternative.

EU Awards More than €1 Billion to Hydrogen Projects:

The European Commission has committed €1.09 billion in Innovation Fund support to hydrogen projects across Europe, reflecting the continued global momentum behind hydrogen as a clean energy cornerstone. As the hydrogen economy scales from electrolyzers and fuel cells to storage and distribution infrastructure, reliable sensing technology becomes essential at every stage of the value chain. H2scan’s self-calibrating sensor platforms are purpose-built for exactly this expanding landscape.

H2scan on the Road – Thank You for Visiting Us!

May was an exciting month for the H2scan team as we represented at two major industry events. It was a privilege to connect with so many professionals who are shaping the future of energy infrastructure. Thank you to everyone who stopped by to talk hydrogen safety, transformer monitoring and battery protection.

Upcoming Tradeshows

DTECH Data Center & AI

Scottsdale, Arizona | Table #5

Our team had outstanding conversations with utility leaders and data center infrastructure developers about the next generation of grid reliability challenges. We were proud to showcase H2scan’s transformer monitoring and battery safety system solutions to an audience operating at the intersection of AI growth and power infrastructure, an environment that needs reliable hydrogen detection. If we met you at our table, let’s keep the conversation going. If we missed you, there is no better time to catch up.

World Hydrogen Summit

Rotterdam Ahoy | Booth #4F110Rotterdam brought together the global hydrogen community in force, and H2scan was proud to be part of it. We shared our latest innovations in hydrogen monitoring with an international audience of industry leaders, investors and policymakers. The energy and interest displayed at this year’s summit reinforced the importance of the hydrogen economy and how accurate, maintenance-free hydrogen sensors are critical to its growth.

Our next confirmed tradeshow appearance will be in September. Details to follow, so watch the future issues of this newsletter.

Product Spotlight:

HY-GUARD™

Tired of false alarms in your battery storage rooms and containers? Traditional catalytic and metal oxide sensors used in hydrogen gas monitors are cross-sensitive to other gases, triggering false alarms that disrupt operations. HY-GUARD™ from H2scan eliminates that pattern with patented sensing technology refined over 20 years in demanding utility and industrial environments. Features like self calibration reduce the cost of maintenance, as well. Stop the false alarm cycle and turn to reliability instead.
