We have a full quarter of news and announcements coming up over the next few months, all designed to help our customers better manage their assets and safety programs in 2025.

H2scan on the Road

Jeff Donato, Sales Director of Safety Products, was again in the field, this time in London at the Energy Storage Summit. It is exciting to see how Europe embraces the role of large-scale Battery Energy Storage in modern grids and the potential new partnerships possible with H2scan.

H2scan also published a blog in February about the challenging network of battery room safety regulations in Europe, Ensuring Battery Room Safety in Europe: Navigating Standards and Best Practices. New Tutorial Information

H2scan has been proactive in helping utilities monitor the condition of their transformers. Now, we’re also reaching out to manufacturing industries to help them understand how Hydrogen DGA monitoring improves and provides insight into the health of their transformer fleet. Hydrogen DGA measurement is a critical tool for production facilities seeking to ensure continuous power production, reduce downtime and improve plant safety. Coming Soon! New Product Technology Launches!

We are launching four new products at the DISTRIBUTECH trade show on March 25. Three are new versions of our popular GRIDSCAN® 5000 hydrogen sensor technology designed for the more demanding single gas (hydrogen) transformer monitoring applications. The fourth new product, HY-VAULT is a revolutionary method for monitoring the health of underground vault transformers. While vault transformers act as the heart of power in urban areas, their location and design has always made it challenging to assess their health, creating power security and urban safety hazards. Hydrogen Economy and Energy on The Move

One of the challenges related to hydrogen as a fuel source is the amount of energy used in the electrolysis process. An exciting first step is seeing green hydrogen successfully implemented on a large scale. A location in Scotland holds that honor, with the world’s first green hydrogen shore power at the Port of Leith, that country’s largest enclosed deep-water port.

When we see new technology in a fast growth pattern, we all wait for the bubble to burst. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case for Artificial Intelligence, of course. AI is now already embedded across so many industries, and its growth is expected to triple in the next three years. The AI explosion has implications far beyond the technology sector, of course, as the power industry is moving rapidly to find ways to support the massive grid demands AI will place on an electrification system already struggling to keep pace. Hydrogen sensing will play a critical role in safely deploying new structures and facilities to power the growth of AI.

The lead time for new transformers has doubled to 120 weeks. We are now seeing new companies entering or expanding their transformer manufacturing efforts. Events such as supply chain issues during the COVID-19 pandemic, the rise in data centers, and the increasing electrification worldwide have all contributed to the shortage problem, with one transformer manufacturing facility even reporting a 5-year wait time for new orders. Extending the life of the installed based has never been more important, and H2scan plays a large part in solving that challenge for grid operators.
