Frequently asked questions

All FAQs & Knowledge Base

A. An area hydrogen detector should be placed close to the likely leak source or where hydrogen can accumulate, and in the path of natural or forced airflow — near vents or in dead spaces where it can collect.

A. With specialized sensors that measure hydrogen concentration in the air, installed near the source or where hydrogen accumulates. Good sensors are hydrogen-specific, with no cross-sensitivity to other industrial gases, so they measure hydrogen accurately.

A. Hydrogen is lighter than air and rises, so an area detector is mounted high — near the ceiling and close to where hydrogen is likely to gather, accounting for airflow and vents.

A. Alarm thresholds depend on the application, but typical levels are 1% and 2% hydrogen by volume. The Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) or a more demanding application may set different limits.
